I Knew This Day Would Arrive

roche_002Earlier today I learned that my favorite virtual destination for almost four years is closing  this day. I don’t feel sad; I have great memories and lots of photos of this place. It’s one of the places I liked to make sure that new SL friends got to see. roche_001I also don’t really feel sad that MU is shutting down. I have good memories of it and it’s transformed me in some ways. Now it’s up to me to carry on and make the changes in my creativity that it’s inspired me to.roche_004I wouldn’t have gone to Roche today because I have a lot to do in real life and I knew there would be others there but I’d deleted the video clips I’d made of it when I first started learning machinima a little while ago. They came nowhere close to doing it justice. Even though I knew this day would arrive I thought I’d have a little more time to improve my skills and do a better job of capturing the beauty of Roche.

roche_006I went back and filmed around people as best I could. There’s a lot of footage and it will take quite a bit of editing but I’m so glad I made time to do this.

I uploaded my Newton Out of Context slideshow video. The avatar Newton is very photogenic and also quite interesting so I included some (out of context) quotes along with his images overlayed with destination and art images. Most of the art is mine; there are some drawings by Trilby Minotaur and RMarie Beedit too. I had the inspiration to do this and worked on it all of one Friday night about two weeks ago.roche_007

Double Exposure Stills

mp 20 db

The above photo was taken at City Inside Out and Lost City. I blended both photos in Picmonkey, using one of them as an added texture. I watched a tutorial about it, which I’m not sure is available to users of the free version. It’s fairly simple to figure out; I just hadn’t ever thought of it.

Picmonkey is one of the few subscriptions I have of all the tools on the internet. (I’ve also purchased Fraps.) Contact me inworld if you have questions.

I’m simply not willing to use my mental bandwidth on things like Photoshop at this time and I’m not a snob about which applications I use.  Like playing with glitch art last week, I gave myself a crash course in this double exposure technique.  I used different settings than in the tutorial which may be more suited for real life photos.

Trilby Minotaur is one of the avatars in my new machinima. I photographed them in front of a white panel. So much of what I do is on the fly; I photographed snow on the ground in Eaton, on Sansara, for the texture.

I snapped still shots on location at LEA 20.

It takes, patience, luck, tweaking and a good eye for what you like.

I’m in the very beginning stages of learning machinima and this is something I can do now to help  bring my vision to manifestation in my art.

MU Photography Tour of Mistero Hifeng’s Installation

Veyot led a photography tour of MU people to see the wonderful creations of Mistero Hifeng. We discussed windlight and were given note cards of the answers that Mistero graciously gave to questions about his work. We accomplished a lot in one hour and had an enjoyable and inspiring time.

I quickly snapped and processed these photos and am posting here so ones appropriate for a gallery can be chosen.6

And I particularly like the results when I cropped AlexandreLois1 in the above photo.

These are my drawings as the briefly looked from one angle in the new Drawing Gallery

And as they became transparent and couldn’t be seen. I finally took all but one down as I’d spent quite a bit of time on it.

Next week I’m to have a drawing of Marie Beedit for class. Trilby, Marie and I went on a photo shoot for this. This is the photo I chose to draw. The drawing itself isn’t very good but I’m amused at the title: Mother Marie and Baby Ginger. I gave them halos.

This was the outfit and location but not the pose of the drawing Trilby will do of me.

They tried lots of outfits and locations but Trilby gave me a break and was satisfied with my set up soon enough.

Ocho Tango

Friday night I showed Feels some places. We went to Chouchou so he could try out a cinematic hud. The we went to Mistero Hifeng’s place, Ocho Tango and The Far Away. He took some great photos for his Flickr.

Selfies at Leka

Hollyhocks are one of my favorite flowers. There’s an abundance of them at the Leka sim and since I’ve been wanting a new spring season header for my main blog I did some photo practice recently.

Carrying On

a this week

Areas at LEA 23 continue to change. This is the new Writers Lounge and is the landmark for the area where my studio is located.

a this week 2

There are new signs pointing to the different areas of campus and the kiosks have been moved to help in navigation.

a this week 3

Veyot changed her studio too. While I was looking at it, she logged in and can be seen through the window. A little later she sent me her story for the latest story pics project. Counting mine, I have three now.

a this week 4

I’ve wasted a lot of time attempting to fix my avatar floating above the chair and sinking into the ground. I’ve adjusted my height and tried tweaking my hover sliders. I’m done messing with it for a while.

I’m gaining more confidence with what I make.

The landscape I drew for Drinking and Drawing class.

Art Ojula and I did a photo shoot at ASU Virtual Heritage Island for the next story board pictures. It might have best if I stopped at the last one, which had some difficulty involved.

Egos, paranoia and misunderstandings regarding collaboration. And I’m not the only one who’s had unpleasant situations. I don’t mind having a listening ear but some people have been harsh while venting. Oh well, it’s Second Life.

One of the learners, Roxy, has a photography studio with poses and invites avatars to take photos and send them to her. I took three pictures and sent her two of them.

She likes this one better.

I put some new work outside my studio. Myra wants our work for the new KPO Gallery and I was going to let her pick something that might work. But what’s wanted is some writing featured and some of the stories from the Story Board were requested. I got permissions from five of the six writers from the first project. The photos in the later ones aren’t as good; they were mostly meant as prompts.

new photos_002

I’ll post some of these to my flickr account when I have time. I really have so much more to do lately.

new photos_003

The online writing course I signed up for is too much to do so I’ll just read through it this time and take it again next time it’s offered.

I took two small tours  to Hemingway’s studio as well as one short one with someone who couldn’t make the other times.
